HEALING

The entire message of the gospel revolves around one unique historical event; the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross. The most complete account of what was accomplished at the cross was given through Isaiah 700 years before it actually took place.  This is what he tells us;  “Surely he took up our infirmities (literally sicknesses) and carried our sorrows (literally pains), yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted.  But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”  Two truths are here interwoven.  On the spiritual plane, Jesus received the punishment due to our transgressions and iniquities that we, in turn might be forgiven and so have peace with God.  On the physical plane, Jesus bore our sicknesses and pain that through his wounds might be healed.  Did Jesus go to the cross to heal you as well as save you?
